In our neighborhood

People are suspicious, if something different and unknown is coming to their neighborhood. They easily are against it (’Not in my backyard’) and would like it to be placed somewhere else.

There is a youth home called “Lysti” in my neighborhood, which offers a place for young people to stay when they cannot live in their own home. I got the pleasure of photographing their everyday lives at ”Lysti”.

With my photographs, I would like to show how ordinary their lives are and ask the question, would something like this fit into your neighborhood. Isn’t it better to ask “Why not in my backyard ?” rather than say “Not in my backyard!”.

The photographs were a part of a group exhibition ’100 steps and 7 views’ in 2014.

After my exhibition, I continued working with them by helping two young ladies to produce a book and an exhibition using their own photographs.

Absolutely massive thank to the youth at Lysti and the staff for their co-operation
